Sofía Rosales Arreola

Mexican filmmaker known for her work in stop motion, Sofía studied Audiovisual Arts at the Department of Image and Sound at the University of Guadalajara. 

Her first venture into the world of animation was the film “Inzomnia”, directed by the renowned animator Luis Téllez. She joined the project as a volunteer, which allowed her to experience, first-hand, the intensity and discipline that characterises the animation process. 

Subsequently, she directed “House of Memory” (2020), a short film that combines stop motion and 2D animation. The project was inspired by his paternal grandmother, Guadalupe, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. The film won several awards, including the Ariel Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2021, awarded by the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. 

In 2021, she joined the project and crew of Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson’s “Pinocchio” (2022) as first assistant director on the Second Unit. She currently serves as production supervisor of the art department at Laika Studios for their new feature film, ‘Wildwood’.
